The Squat is the king of exercises, it works more muscles from top to bottom
than any other move you can do in the gym.
Why then do so few people perform
this move consistantly and with any real intensity?
The most common excuses
are;
"It hurts my back"
If you truly have a back problem or injury
then loading the spine through a back squat is a bad idea, however bodyweight
only squats can be used to aid flexibility and strength through the legs and
hips when rehabilitating a back problem.
"Ego"
Most guys in the gym
want to push large amounts of weight to boost there ego's often with terrible
form on the exercise. For a squat to be a true squat you must lower until your
thighs are at least parrallel if not lower! Half squats with too much weights =
shortchanging your results but people rarely learn this.
"Lack of
variation"
This should never be an excuse as there are so many ways to squat
intensely and maximise results!! Want to emphasise the quads a little more?
Front Squat with the bar across your clavicles, Want to hit the glutes more?
Squat with a wide stance. Looking for Power? Jump Squat. More Stability? Single
leg Squat!!!
There are so many ways to benefit from this great move, just
employ correct form, squat deep, squat intensely and squat regulary :)
